Keep Your Kids Belongings Safe With Iron On Clothing Labels

Tuesday, June 11th, 2013

Lots of parents understand the importance of labels when it comes to their children’s possessions. Whether it is for clothing, bags, school equipment or other personal belongings, labels can prove to be very beneficial in ensuring that your children never lose their things again. With iron on clothing labels, you can effortlessly add labels to your kids possessions without any trouble. It also proves to be very advantageous when it comes to personalising your child’s belongings, as you will not have to deal with tedious stitching methods, especially if you are not a fan of sowing.

As a teacher, I can tell you that if we spent the time it takes to find all those lost things then there wouldn’t be much time for teaching. I know that the art of losing things is an inherent right. I’ve seen parents go to great lengths to try and instill in their kids responsibility. I’ve seen kids come to school on cold, snowy days with one glove only to leave with just one. Seems that they lost the other one at some point during the day. Using iron on clothing labels is a simple way of insuring the item is returned promptly and not condemned to spend eternity in the lost and found.

Just like adults, kids have a lot of things on their minds during the day at school. Believe it or not they stress out just like we do. So, I think that punishing them for losing things in hopes of teaching them a lesson is the wrong way to go about it. I do believe that they should be taught responsibility for their things but having them come home with frostbite isn’t my idea of tough love. I thought the answer to all the “lost and found” issues could be solved by making a list. The problem with that is that the lists all started disappearing. So, there we were back at square one.

As they grow up they will learn to be more responsible for their belongings and they will understand the importance of it. But, until then I found a great new way to help my kindergartners keep up with his or her things while making things easier on the teacher as well. As an experimental run I bought peel-and-stick labels to place on every lunchbox and every water bottle that I had in my class. I promise from that day on I never had a student lose their lunchboxes or water bottles. Once I started seeing those kids come to school with their belongings labeled I learned that this wasn’t a fluke. I first started sharing this new find with parents who showed great interest out of frustration with their kids losing things.

I encouraged parents to expand this practice to use iron on clothing labels as well. This turned out to be a little more difficult than just writing a name on a peel-and-stick label and sticking it on a smooth surface like a lunchbox. I did some looking around and I found Mabel’s Labels. A great company that has been in business for a long time. They provide custom iron-ons that adhere to just about any fabric and are perfect for uniforms, jackets and more. Tag-Mates(TM) are no sew, no iron clothing labels which peel and stick to the care tags on clothing. They also have shoe labels that are extra tough and fit nicely on the insole of boots, shoes and more. Their bag tags are sturdy metal tags that are perfect for labeling school bags, diaper bags and other luggage.

Trust me on this….after all I learned this in my Kindergarten class and isn’t it true that all we ever needed to know we learned in Kindergarten?
